Formalization of Geometric Inter-Part Properties in Assembling Complex Products

A comprehensive formalization of geometric properties of complex engineering objects given in the paper is based on the regularly used paradigm of state space. It enable using the same terms to describe the geometric obstacle, a stability of parts in assembly process, a grasping capability of the assembling robot, a coherence condition of the assembly operations, and a mechanical structure of the product. The formalization also allows using the well-developed approaches and algorithms of motion planning to develop assembly processes and operations.
Keyword: assembly, motion planning, computer-aided design, assembly process planning, configuration space
